Botanical accuracy in my
paintings is something I am constantly striving to achieve, but equally
important in my judgement is a strong element of good design which also depicts
the habits of the plants. Formal botanical studies have their place in text books, but I prefer
to produce pictures which are pleasing when framed and hung on the wall
whilst still maintaining accuracy of botanical
details. Much of my work is commissioned, but as I always work from live
plants it is often necessary to wait for them to be in season. Watercolour
and gouache are my usual media, with pencil work and pen and ink included
where appropriate.
A range of botanical prints, greetings cards and stationery
items have been produced from my original paintings.
